Lynchs Woods Passage

Trail Description

Beautiful Lynch’s Woods Park, full of old growth trees and criss-crossed by Rocky Branch Creek, was originally created in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Now managed by the Newberry County Recreation Department, this 276 acre park has approximately 7.5 miles of hiking and biking trails, and 6 miles of trail available to equestrians in addition to the nearly 5-mile loop that is part of the Palmetto Trail. Bike trails are considered to be “intermediate” with twisting turns, hills and challenging creek crossings. The Park has recently added a one-mile TRACK Trail installation with a nature scavenger hunt for kids that encourages them to track their adventures on the Kids in Parks website and get a sticker. Mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians can all happily spend hours here, on the Palmetto Trail or one of many others in the Park. Indeed, there are so many trails it is easy to lose track of the Palmetto Trail passage. Look for Palmetto Trail kiosks located at the first parking lot, as well as by the restroom and picnic shelter. Please note that campers, trailers and equestrians are asked to park in the first lot to the right prior to entering the park gate. The Lynch’s Woods Passage of the Palmetto Trail is a 4.9 mile loop trail through the park with a single connection to the Newberry Passage which takes users through the heart of downtown Newberry and along the campus of Newberry College.
