Trunk or Treat & Full Moon Hike

Join the Palmetto Trail for a fun-filled evening on the trail featuring two unique activities for the community! Start the evening with a family-friendly Trunk or Treat, then stick around for an immersive Full Moon Hike exploring the nighttime sights and sounds of the trail.

Trunk or Treat | 5:30–7:00 PM

Bring the whole family to the Alston Trailhead for a special Palmetto Trail Trunk or Treat! The Palmetto Trail and our community partners will have tables set up throughout the trailhead where children can collect candy, meet local organizations, and learn more about the work being done to protect and connect South Carolina's outdoors.

Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume and enjoy an evening of treats, community, and outdoor fun. Families will have the opportunity to interact with Palmetto Trail staff and partners while discovering the many ways local organizations contribute to our communities and natural spaces.

Full Moon Hike | 7:00–9:00 PM

Once the Trunk or Treat comes to an end, interested participants can join us for a Full Moon Hike through the Palmetto Trail.

This nighttime adventure will focus on sensory exploration and nocturnal wildlife. Participants will use their senses to experience the trail in a different way, learning how nighttime changes the sights, sounds, and other experiences of the natural world. Along the hike, we will discuss some of the wildlife that becomes active after dark and explore how animals have adapted to life at night.

Weather permitting, we will also take some time to stargaze beneath the evening sky and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the trail under the full moon.

Whether you are looking for a fun Halloween activity for the family or an opportunity to experience the outdoors after dark, there will be something for everyone!

Participants attending the Full Moon Hike should come prepared for an evening outdoors and wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
