10:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Palmetto Trail's Earth Month is all about getting people outside and on the trail! We've got tons of fun conservation-inspired events this April including a backpacking course on the Peak to Prosperity passage with Board Chairman, Tracy Macpherson!
All participants will gather at the Alston Trailhead at 10:00 am, following the optional Bird Walk which is 8:00am-10:00am.
You are responsible for bringing your own gear; however, additional gear is available to borrow, including packs, tents & hammocks.
You are also responsible for bringing a bag lunch, snacks & breakfast. Dinner will be provided, so please let us know of any allergies before April 16th, 2026 so we can plan accordingly.
Pre-hike Introductions
- Shakedown - gear check and discussion - we will set aside time to check our gear and discuss Leave no Trace and the 10 essentials to backpacking. This is a great workshop for beginners but we welcome all skill-levels to join.
- Create your own backcountry meal - Tracy Macpherson will demonstrate how we can make our own backcountry meal with ziplock cooking. All ingredients and supplies for dinner with be provided, and backpacking stoves can be shared.
- We will eat lunch before we start our hike
- Backpack the Peak to Prosperity passage; the distance will be determined by the participants. Please be aware that it may be 5 miles out and 5 miles back, equaling a 10 mile day.
- Return to campsite before sunset to set up camp and eat the premade ziplock meals.
- Morning time will be a quick breakfast, pack up our gear and leave no trace at campsite. There will be an optional morning hike/backpack for who want a little more!
