The Palmetto Trail:
The Palmetto Trail, when finished, will be a 425+ mile recreational trail that crosses the state of South Carolina. The Trail will begin at Oconee State Park in the upstate and end north of Charleston on the coast.   There are many different passages on the trail that can be used for day hikes or overnight weekend trips.   Get your family and friends together and go find your favorite passage.   For directions and maps of the Palmetto Trail click on the trail man .

Check out the South Carolina State Trails Program to find cool trails all over the state, including hiking trails, mountain biking trails, interpretive trails, and the Palmetto Trail.



You can also find information on trails, camping, and other events at the South Carolina State Parks website.




Have you ever wanted to learn how to Mountain Bike, Rock Climb, or Kayak? Visit www.setgols.org to sign up for a weekend clinic at the Glendale Outdoor Leadership School (GOLS). While your there, be sure to check out the Upstate’s coolest Adventure Camps.

Writing Contest

Share your adventures here!   You can enter your short story for a chance to win cool prizes.

Here is what you need to do: Write a short story (3-4 paragraphs) about a hike or an outdoor activity that you have done.   You can even write about your Junior Trailblazer Hike.   Be sure to use descriptive details and explain things that you saw or did during your adventure.   Carefully edit your story for grammar errors and spelling mistakes.  

To submit your story: Make sure your name and either telephone number or email address is on your story, so we can contact you if you are chosen as a winner.   Next, choose one of the options below to submit your story.

Deadline:
You must submit your stories by December 15, 2009 in order to be considered for the prize.

Your stories will be judged based on creativity, details, proper grammar, and spelling.   A winner will be chosen and contacted to collect their prize.   Look for the winning story in a newspaper near you.
