Chainsaw Certification Course

April 27, 28, May 5

During this 1½ day course, participants will be introduced to and taught on chainsaw basics, chainsaw safety, and proper cutting techniques. This course follows the Missoula Technology and Development Center (MTDC) course outline, which has become a standard in chainsaw certification. It will consist of a classroom component (Friday evening) and 1 days in the field (one of the two Saturdays).

The class will be taught by Dennis Helton of Nebo, NC. It will be held at the Francis Marion District Office (2967 Steed Creek Rd, Huger, SC, 29450). This course is skill-based, but upon completion, participants will be certified sawyers, and able to use a chainsaw with permission in the national forest. (First Aid and CPR are not a requirement for this course, but may be required as a volunteer in a national forest or federal land.)

Items to wear/bring:

  • long-sleeved shirt

  • long pants

  • boots

  • hardhat

  • gloves

  • eye and ear protections

  • chaps

  • personal chainsaws

  • water bottle

  • lunch

If you do not have all of the protection equipment or a chainsaw, these items can be provided for you.

Times:

April 27: 6pm-10pm

April 28: 8am-4:30pm

May 5: 8am-4:30pm

$100
