Palmetto Conservation Foundation Offers Summer Adventure Camp

Columbia, S.C., May 20, 2009…Children across South Carolina will have the opportunity to get outside and get active at Palmetto Conservation Foundation’s Adventure Camp 2009 this summer. Adventure Camp is the perfect choice for kids ages 6-15 who are looking for an exciting summer full of meeting new friends, learning new skills and enjoying nature.  Palmetto Conservation Foundation’s camp combines leadership, education, adventure and fun with the intent of helping children grow mentally and physically, develop self-confidence and become stewards of the environment.

Participating children will learn fundamental skills in rock climbing, mountain biking, paddling and hiking from trained instructors. They will then practice these skills in a variety of exciting and active adventures. Children will also learn teambuilding skills while exploring the outdoors. Adventure Camp campers participate in arts and crafts sessions to learn how to use natural materials to create masterpieces, while practicing thinking creatively.  The camp additionally includes lessons in outdoor education, including first-aid, wildlife, trees, wilderness survival and orienteering.

Adventure Camp consists of four different five-day sessions running from June 8 through July 31.  The sessions will be held at Harbison State Forest in Columbia and Dreher Island State Recreation Area on Lake Murray.  The camp will cost $100 per child, with a discount for siblings.

To learn more and to register, children and parents may visit http://palmettoconservation.com/Summercamp.asp or contact Kari Fox at 803-771-0870 or by email at kfox@palmettoconservation.org.  Children are encouraged to register soon as space is limited and camps fill up fast!
